The vast spectrum that is politics

So by now I'm sure everyone has heard the news about the goof balls in Bell, California (a very small town outside LA). The long and short: City Manager Robert Rizzo, Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia, and Police Chief Randy Adams had a combined salary of more than $1.6 million. I say had because they've all been fired now. Yes this little tiny town where the average income is 35k, three civil workers had some of the highest salaries in the country for their respective job. Take City Manager Bobby Rizzo, he was making 800k!!! The President of the United States is only paid 400k. The town's mayor, Oscar Hernandez, made an ass of himself as he tried to justify the salaries. He won't be seeking re-election by the way.

Now to the crazy side of politics, the honest side: Jean Gregoire Sagbo became the first Black man elected in Russia. He is now one of ten Novozavidovo’s municipal councilors. Sagbo never wanted to run for office, his neighbors had to beg him. Jean Gregoire would even use his own money to clean up his apartment building and street. “Novozavidovo is dying,” Sagbo said in an interview in the ramshackle municipal building. “This is my home, my town. We can’t live like this.”

“His skin is black but he is Russian inside,” said Vyacheslav Arakelov, the mayor. “The way he cares about this place, only a Russian can care.”

Damn fine man.
